Leadership

As our business grows, we are developing and creating more leaders of teams, businesses and companies.

We believe leadership is critical to the development and management of a business and describe below the attributes that we believe are key to effective leadership.

Leadership attributes Description
"Picture" As our business grows, we are developing and creating a greater numbers of leaders, whether of teams, businesses or companies.  Each of these involves the leadership of groups of people.

It's essential that a leader can create a clear picture of the vision for the business or activity, and the steps that need to be taken to progress towards it.  People want to be able to see the whole thing that they’re part of.
Engagement Leaders must take the picture to the people and give them the opportunity to “throw rocks”.  Leaders need the confidence to stand in front of their people and say “this is what I think we should do”.  The people will either like it or they won’t follow, but they must be given the choice.
Execute with drive and passion Execution is critical – it is not enough to have wonderful strategic ideas.  The job has to get done, and it must get done with drive – the leader should be pushing with energy – and passion (the leader should be excited about it).
Bring out the best Great leaders reach into their business and take their great people and develop them into the best they can be.  Even if it makes the people surpass the leader.  This must involve the leader treating different skills “equally” – it is hard to bring out the best in great people if their particular skills are not valued as highly as others.  This can happen, for example, where soft skills are valued less than technical skills, and shouldn’t.
Edge Leaders need to have the edge to make the hard decisions.  This is both in terms of being prepared to make the decision, and to act quickly to get it done.  Both require edge.  Without it, leaders do a disservice to their business and their organisation.
Care & ownership A leader should visibly care and own their business, which means behaving above and beyond the call of duty.  There should never be a question about whether the leader is totally committed to the business.  For example, in a time of crisis, a CEO is never off the clock.
